Buying the Right Meter

The occupational noise regulations (OSHA, MSHA, etc.) state that you should use at least a Type 2 Sound Level Meter that measures the Slow Sound Level. You can use these measurements to work out the Time Weighted Average. The CR160 range of meters are Integrating Sound Level Meters that measure the Leq and LAVG and can provide you with a TWA reading.

Our Recommendation

For basic measurements , we would recommend order code SC162A - Type 2 meter with no logging and no octaves. It comes with a Certificate of Calibration and with a Calibrator as required. The extra bits (logging and octaves) can be added at a later date if needed.

For more advanced use, or where the noise levels are particularly high, we recommend order code CK162C - Type 2 meter with logging and octaves. This also gives the ability to assess the level at the ear when wearing different hearing protectors.
