Real Time Analyzer with 120 dB in a Single Range

The NOR118 has a very high dynamic range of 120 dB. This makes the instrument easier to use, makes measurements quicker to start and, more importantly, ensures much more reliable results in areas where the noise levels are varying by a large amount.

Most sound level meters have a dynamic range of about 60 or 70 dB. To enable the instrument to measure all the noise levels required, this will be split up into multiple ranges. For example, the instrument will have one range covering 20 to 80 dB, another one covering 30 to 90 dB, and so on up 80 to 140 dB. This means that to avoid "overload" and "under-range" problems, you must select the measurement range before starting a measurement. This can cause problems when the background noise is quiet but is interrupted by events that are more then 70 dB above background.

With the NOR118 there is no such thing as a range selection. The entire 120 dB is covered in a single range. This is particularly important when measuring in octave and 1/3 octave bands, where the levels in the different bands can vary considerably.
